Rescue Around The World | IDVSUPPORT

IVAO-IDV Tour 2020

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak (Covid-19) has rendered world’s commercial aviation motionless due to growing travel bans, lockdowns, and the lowest air travel demand ever since the early 2000s. This means that so many airlines, in reality, have to ground airplanes and either cut capacity, convert into cargo operations, open charters, or even shut down forever. Similar condition is also being experienced in Indonesia, where two of its largest airlines are now handling charter and logistic operations to stay afloat during these difficult times. This condition has resulted in unique flights and traffics being operated to places normally impossible.

On April 21st, 2020, Garuda Indonesia operated the first known flight into Western Hemisphere by an Indonesian carrier in recent memory when it operated PK-GIH, a Boeing 777-300ER, for a repatriation mission on behalf of the Brazilian Government. Originally, the rescue flight was to be flown via Doha and Johannesburg, but permission rejection by the Qatari Government for the Doha transit prompted Garuda to change its route via Amsterdam, allowing for another crew change as well.

The 777 finally flew from Jakarta to Vietnam and Bangkok first to collect Brazilian citizens before heading to Sao Paulo via Medan and Amsterdam. The 777 then was ferried back empty via Amsterdam. In total, the 777 covered around 29.000nm of journey in 4 days. The operation became the basic premise for this upcoming tour named “Rescuing Around the World – To Brazil and Back”.

Indonesia Virtual, as the virtual airline simulating Garuda Indonesia Group operations, wishes to re-enact it with slight change: instead of via Amsterdam, the 777 returns via Anchorage, making this the second IDV world tour. Indonesia Virtual thus requests the assistance and cooperation of IVAO Indonesia Division to operate this tour in an online network and the awarding of IVAO-ID official tour badge, if possible, to support and excite the members of both IDV and IVAO-ID.
